Joshua Drive - Rattlesnake Ranch

Experience a private piece of Hollywood history. Established in 1959 and perched atop its own mountain in Yucca Valley, Rattlesnake Ranch was the legendary desert retreat of Jimmy Van Heusen, the four-time Academy Award-winning songwriter behind some of the Great American Songbook's most iconic standards. While Van Heusen was writing for Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby in Los Angeles, the ranch became a secluded escape for his inner circle, with guests said to have included Sinatra, Dean Martin, Marilyn Monroe, and President John F. Kennedy. Hidden from the Hollywood spotlight, it was a place for late-night music, cold martinis, and the easy glamour of the Rat Pack era. Today, the restored two-bedroom Poolhouse preserves that spirit while pairing its storied past with elevated mid-century design and one of the most extraordinary settings in the High Desert.

Designed around panoramic views and effortless indoor-outdoor living, the Poolhouse opens onto a private swimming pool, stone hot tub, sculptural sunken firepit, covered outdoor kitchen, and al fresco dining area. Multiple lounging spaces invite long afternoons beneath the desert sun, while a two-person swing suspended above the valley offers a front-row seat to the changing landscape. As evening arrives, watch the mountains glow at sunset, gather around the fire as the lights of Yucca Valley appear below, and take in a sky filled with stars from the privacy of your own mountaintop. Nearly every corner of the property captures sweeping, 360-degree views of the surrounding High Desert.

Inside, the open living space feels warm, polished, and deeply connected to the ranch's history. A fully equipped kitchen, generous island with bar seating, and comfortable lounge area create an inviting central space for cooking, gathering, and unwinding. Archival photographs and carefully selected furnishings celebrate the personalities and stories that shaped the property, while expansive windows keep the desert landscape constantly in view.

Each bedroom has its own distinct character. The pale pink primary suite pays homage to Marilyn Monroe with a soft, glamorous palette, while the second bedroom draws inspiration from Sinatra in rich shades of green. Both rooms are paired with beautifully finished modern bathrooms and direct access to the outdoors, allowing guests to wake to quiet mountain views and step immediately into the desert air.
